Ian Nalder's detailed account is more than a history of a Golf Club. Nairn Golf Club was destined to become one of Scotland's famous links courses which has attracted an extraordinary procession of famous golfers, celebrities, politicians and Royalty.
Founded in 1889, Nalder charts the development of the course over the years, from first beginnings to the years of both world wars and the depression. Few realise the dedication and determination required of the committees to ensure the survival of the course, at a time when golf was a comparatively minor sport. There were many problems: from the perennial plague of rabbits to recalcitrant landlords, lack of money and badly behaved caddies to name but a few! The history of the course is the history of the town of Nairn itself. The book is lavishly illustrated with photographs, many of which have never been published before.
Pride in The Pedigree concludes with a masterful description of the victory by Britain and Ireland over the USA in the Walker Cup in 1999. The drama of the European win is the stuff of films and Nalder's account enshrines this memorable match for all students of the game to enjoy.
